#Notonourwatch african penguin survival campaign - 12 october, 2024
International African Penguin Awareness Day is on Saturday, 12 October this year. There will be big waddles in Simon's Town and Durban and more organisations are signing up. It will also be international, with the likes of the Florida Aquarium preparing to go big. African penguins are engangered and soon to be listed as critically endangered. By raising awareness, the government is encouraged to protect them better and stop their extinction in the wild by 2035. Supporters can join big waddles or hold their own at home, at a sports club, on the beach - just remember to wear black and white, print a placard, take pictures, post them to social media and tag #NOOW. Follow the campaign on social media to keep up to date.

“It's not possible to save the world by trying to save it. You need to find what is genuinely yours to offer the world before you can make it a better place. Discovering your unique gift to bring to your community is your greatest opportunity and challenge. The offering of that gift — your true self — is the most you can do to love and serve the world. And it is all the world needs.” Thomas Berry, Soulcraft: Crossing into the Mysteries of Nature and Psyche
